Keto Pulled Pork

Just a simple, easy and delicious pulled pork.

Pulled pork is one of my favourite ways to eat pork. I love it just as it is, for me it’s the perfect keto snack or meal. You can use it in your sandwiches and burgers, on a pizza even, pasta dishes etc, etc, you get the idea. So here is just a very basic recipe. We’re only using a dry rub for this and cooking it low and slow. Enjoy!

Where is the BBQ sauce?

Well I know a lot of people like BBQ sauce on their pork so I did whip up a Keto BBQ sauce which you can use on this pork as well.

The juice!

Once you are done cooking the pork you will find a lot of liquid in the bottom of your roasting tray. Pour that out into a bowl and leave it for 10 minutes to settle. You will see that it separates into a layer of fat and a layer of jus. Skim off all the fat and set it aside for use in your cooking in the future. It’s going to be one of the most wonderful flavoured cooking fats ever! Then you can reduce the jus in a pan or just pour that all over the pulled pork to make it more moist and juicy.

So I’ve not put macros because you can just pull out a generic pork shoulder roasted listing and use that since there is nothing to add calories or carbs since it’s all spices being used.

  1. Sounds excellent!!! I feel the need to use my slow cooker for ultimate satisfaction. How long would you suggest oh awesome Metalness? \m/

      1. I do a LOT of cooking in my Slow-Cooker/Crockpot, and using my Crockpot to cook a Pork Shoulder roast is no exception. More than a few Pulled Pork recipes here on the internet instruct that a 1 kg (approx. 2-1/2 lbs.) Shoulder Roast should be cooked (in the oven) @ 350 F. or 400 F. for approximately 1 hour (I tried doing it that way ONCE, and my roast was WAY too dry with not enough “juice” to make even a decent gravy. It’s been Crockpot ever since for me!) Anyway, since: (1) the general rule for Crockpot cooking is “1 hour for every 15 minutes of ‘otherwise’ methods (e.g., stovetop or conventional oven); and (2) our Master Chef Magician instructs 2 hours “oven time”@ 150 C (300 F.), I’m going to (very humbly) suggest that 4 hours on HIGH or 6 hours on LOW in your slow-cooker will “get the job done”. The IMPORTANT thing to remember is that the INTERNAL TEMP of the meat must be 145 F. before Pork is “safe” to eat, so have a Meat Thermometer handy. Another thing to remember is that it’s ALMOST impossible to overcooked pretty much ANYTHING in a Crockpot, lol. Hope this helps.

  2. I cook the pulled pork in a slow cooker for about 5 hours.
What are the Macros content per serving of the pulled pork recipe ?

    1. I had been doing “full-blown” Keto for just over a year (and had lost more than 100 lbs.) when the Pandemic hit and it became more difficult to find (or pay for) certain products at a reasonable price, and certain adjustments were made. At the same time, and even when I was “full-blown”, I only counted the Net Carbs and allowed the Proteins and the Fats to “take care of themselves”. That having been said (and using my own “formula”), looking over the Ingredients for this recipe, I would suggest that there is absolutely NO WAY that this recipe can amount to anywhere even close to 2.5 Net Carbs per serving (which, to my mind, equates to near-ZERO). Just be careful with what you eat “otherwise” during the course of your day and include as your “sides” when you eat this preparation, and you’ll be just fine. In a World of “What should I worry about today?”, TRUST ME, this Pork Shoulder Roast recipe shouldn’t even be considered. Just sayin’.

  3. I’ll have to try your rub next time I’m going to fire up the smoker. It’s one thing I’ve been for some reason avoiding since starting keto.

    1. I just eyeball it normally and add enough so that it’s just below the wire rack level but about 200ml should suffice I think.
